Welcome Students and Parents

My name is Mr. Franks and I teach Biology I and Introduction to Biology (Pre-biology). If your child is in Biology I, this will be a very important year for your child and I encourage your participation. Please help me make this semester in Biology I a success for your child.

All students enrolled in Biology I in the state of Mississippi will take a test at the end of the semester covering the state curriculum for this course. They must score at or above a state set score to graduate from high school in the state of Mississippi*. This will be the first of four tests like this that your child will complete. The other tests are Algebra I, English II, and U. S. History. Your child must also receive a Carnegie credit for these classes (65 or above average) to graduate from high school. Help me throughout this semester to remind your child of the importance of this course.

All parents and students should sign and return the lab safety contract, found on the back of the parent letter. Biology I students and parents should sign and return the bottom of the parent letter.

*The state of Mississippi has added several ways to help students who are poor test takers, including using their final average in Biology I combined with their Biology I SATP2 score.

If I can be of help to you, please let me know.

Below is a copy of the syllabus and lab safety contract I will give students next week.
